Graduation is a memorable occasion that needs to be planned with care. The following are tips for creating a professional graduation for your students.
Graduation Tips
- Choose between having a combined graduation and awards ceremony or two separate programs. A combined service draws a larger crowd but makes the program schedule much longer.
- Order attractive, professionally printed programs.
- Purchase or rent attractive caps and gowns. Schedule pickup of caps and gowns early enough for photography appointments.
- Design and order diplomas early for a guaranteed delivery date.
- Secure use of the graduation facility by scheduling early, especially if using a building other than your school or church.
- Select a speaker who will add to the significance of the ceremony and challenge graduates to a deeper walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Encourage students, especially graduates, to provide special music. Consider using a junior choir, all-school choir, and convention winners. Student involvement is always a blessing and improves attendance.
- Extend personal invitations to all supporters of the school, including those who may not have children in the school.
- Consider providing light refreshments following the ceremony (such as cake and punch), allowing guests to congratulate and fellowship with graduates.
- Provide a separate table for each graduate (decorated by the graduate’s family and friends). This acknowledges his accomplishments and gives an opportunity to display special achievements and awards.
- Involve students in decorating and cleaning buildings. Incorporate school colors and a chosen theme.
